TORONTO, Sept. 26, 2018 /CNW/ – Compassion is the serum that keeps charitable organizations strong. Yesterday, Daily Bread Food Bank presented the Best in Class Awards to recognize individuals and organizations who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to alleviating hunger and poverty in Toronto.

The 6th Annual Best-in-Class awards was hosted by television and radio personality Jennifer Valentyne. “Tonight we are honouring those who are devoted to alleviating the hunger problem across Toronto,” said Valentyne. “It’s wonderful to be a part of this ceremony and acknowledge those that are working hard to help out Daily Bread.”

CEO of Daily Bread, Neil Hetherington, also emphasized the importance of recognizing community leaders. “Advocates, volunteers and philanthropists really are the backbone of charitable organizations,” Hetherington said. “This event not only acknowledges those who continue to give back, but it also highlights the upwards journey of non-profits thanks to these long-standing partnerships built over the years. Whether it be a volunteer helping out at a food drive or a corporation acknowledging their social responsibility, everyone has a role to play in the effort to curb poverty. This ceremony emphasizes exactly that,” Hetherington added.

This year’s award debuted three new categories. Food Industry Trailblazer, Exceptional Volunteer and Outstanding Philanthropist have been included to highlight the commitment companies and individuals have shown in the battle against food insecurity and hunger.

Food programs across Toronto rely on individuals, community groups and corporate partners to raise awareness, boost fundraising campaigns and drive volunteerism. Winners and finalists of the Best in Class awards reflect the long-standing commitment our partners have shown towards charitable work and advocacy.

The Branham300, now in its 25th year, is the best-known and most widely referenced listing of Canada’s top public and private ICT companies, ranked by revenue. The list also tracks the top ICT multinationals operating in Canada plus Up and Comers, those young Canadian companies Branham thinks will be big hits soon.

The 2018 edition of the Branham300 once again shows revenue growth in Canada’s ICT industry. Revenue generated by the Top 250 tech companies in Canada has grown every year since 2009. The growth did slow this year. In fiscal 2017, Canada’s Top 250 achieved growth of 1.14%, compared to 9.6% the previous year.

However, I want to emphasize that this slowdown in growth is not caused by weakness in either the ICT sector or the overall economy. It’s quite the opposite. We saw reduced growth because Canadian companies are so attractive that a number of large firms were purchased by Canadian or foreign buyers and were therefore no longer eligible for our ranking. Once again, Canada’s ICT professionals can be very proud of both the growth and the innovation they produced last year, and we are once again pleased to shine a congratulatory spotlight on this critical industry. Wayne Gudbranson, CEO, Branham Group, June 2018

The list also tracks the top ICT multinationals operating in Canada plus Up and Comers, those young Canadian companies Branham thinks will be big hits soon.

Canada’s Top 250 ICT companies delivered another banner year in 2015, generating a revenue total of $96.1 billion, an increase of 5.7% compared to the year prior. That new record number was driven by the impressive performance of Canada’s Top 250 tech companies: 75% of the Top 250 generated revenue growth, and 54% delivered double- and even triple-digit increases.

“The Branham300 is designed to promote Canada’s Information and Communication Technology industry and the people who build technology businesses in Canada. This year, we were thrilled to see Canada’s Top 250 companies set another revenue record. It is a testament to the strength of our ICT sector.” – Wayne Gudbranson, CEO, Branham Group

The 2015 Edition of the Branham300 marks the 22nd year of the listing—and another year in which Canada’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector set a revenue record.

The Branham300 is the definitive listing of Canada’s top public and private ICT companies, as ranked by revenues.

Canada’s Top 250 ICT companies delivered another banner year in 2014.

2013: $85 billion, an increase of 2.4%.
2014: $90.9 billion, an increase of 6.8%.

That is a remarkable total, especially considering that revenues at BlackBerry, the former king of Canada’s ICT sector, dropped 38% to $7.7 billion in fiscal 2014.
