TORONTO, Sept. 26, 2018 /CNW/ – Compassion is the serum that keeps charitable organizations strong. Yesterday, Daily Bread Food Bank presented the Best in Class Awards to recognize individuals and organizations who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to alleviating hunger and poverty in Toronto.

The 6th Annual Best-in-Class awards was hosted by television and radio personality Jennifer Valentyne. “Tonight we are honouring those who are devoted to alleviating the hunger problem across Toronto,” said Valentyne. “It’s wonderful to be a part of this ceremony and acknowledge those that are working hard to help out Daily Bread.”

CEO of Daily Bread, Neil Hetherington, also emphasized the importance of recognizing community leaders. “Advocates, volunteers and philanthropists really are the backbone of charitable organizations,” Hetherington said. “This event not only acknowledges those who continue to give back, but it also highlights the upwards journey of non-profits thanks to these long-standing partnerships built over the years. Whether it be a volunteer helping out at a food drive or a corporation acknowledging their social responsibility, everyone has a role to play in the effort to curb poverty. This ceremony emphasizes exactly that,” Hetherington added.

This year’s award debuted three new categories. Food Industry Trailblazer, Exceptional Volunteer and Outstanding Philanthropist have been included to highlight the commitment companies and individuals have shown in the battle against food insecurity and hunger.

Food programs across Toronto rely on individuals, community groups and corporate partners to raise awareness, boost fundraising campaigns and drive volunteerism. Winners and finalists of the Best in Class awards reflect the long-standing commitment our partners have shown towards charitable work and advocacy.

The Branham300, now in its 25th year, is the best-known and most widely referenced listing of Canada’s top public and private ICT companies, ranked by revenue. The list also tracks the top ICT multinationals operating in Canada plus Up and Comers, those young Canadian companies Branham thinks will be big hits soon.

The 2018 edition of the Branham300 once again shows revenue growth in Canada’s ICT industry. Revenue generated by the Top 250 tech companies in Canada has grown every year since 2009. The growth did slow this year. In fiscal 2017, Canada’s Top 250 achieved growth of 1.14%, compared to 9.6% the previous year.

However, I want to emphasize that this slowdown in growth is not caused by weakness in either the ICT sector or the overall economy. It’s quite the opposite. We saw reduced growth because Canadian companies are so attractive that a number of large firms were purchased by Canadian or foreign buyers and were therefore no longer eligible for our ranking. Once again, Canada’s ICT professionals can be very proud of both the growth and the innovation they produced last year, and we are once again pleased to shine a congratulatory spotlight on this critical industry. Wayne Gudbranson, CEO, Branham Group, June 2018

Point Alliance is proud to share that they have reached their fundraising goal for the Daily Bread Food Bank. Late last year, the team at Point Alliance challenged their clients and friends to open their hearts and wallets to the local, non-profit organization. Supporting this request, Point Alliance announced that they would kick start by donating $1,000 dollar to the Daily Bread Food Bank through the holiday season with a goal of raising $10,000 by the end of December.

As a regular supporter of the Daily Bread Food Bank, Point Alliance has participated in over 10 fundraising activities with the organization over the years.

About Daily Bread Food Bank

Daily Bread Food Bank is a registered charity that is fighting hunger in our communities. A distribution hub, Daily Bread provides food and support to almost 200 food programs across Toronto. Daily Bread also works towards long-term solutions to hunger and runs innovative programs to support people on low incomes.

Last year, Daily Bread provided food 716,000 visits to member agency food banks and prepares more than 3000 nutritious meals in its kitchen that are sent out every week to shelters, hostels and neighbourhood meal programs. We are the largest provider of food relief in the GTA.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Point Alliance.

We wish you, your family, and friends a peaceful holiday season and a wonderful New Year.

Help us raise money for a great cause this holiday season and to show our commitment we have kick started by donating the first $1,000.

Many of us take for granted the fact that we have cupboards and refrigerators stocked with food every day. That we can go the supermarket and have a choice of the meals we choose to purchase or prepare. It may be hard for us to believe that an organization like the Daily Bread Food Bank last year provided food for 716,000 visits to member agency food banks and prepares more than 3,000 nutritious meals in its kitchen that are sent out every week to shelters, hostels and neighbourhood meal programs.

Your generosity makes a difference! For every $1 you donate, Daily Bread Food Bank will provide one complete and nutritious meal to a neighbour who is hungry.

We always aim high at Point Alliance and we hoping to raise $10,000 by December 31, 2017.
